The year of Dialog09

2009 will see the commemoration of the centenary of the National Exhibition in Århus in 1909 by means of a demonstration – just it was then – of the strengths and potential of Århus in a wide range of fields, thereby portraying the history of Århus from a 2009 perspective.

2009 will be a celebration of the centenary – not a new National Exhibition. Århus has a special gift for bringing talent and knowledge from many different sectors together through dialogue and co-operation. Dialogue is the starting point for any kind of cooperation as well as the prime mover for the development of Århus as a city. In the centenary of the National Exhibition, Århus will demonstrate how this manifests itself by utilizing the KNOWLEDGE present in the city, tuning in to the PULSE-BEAT of the city, and sticking to the ROOTS of the city.

We have chosen 'dialogue' as the overall theme for the centenary celebration because this was highly characteristic of the spirit of the time in 1909. Dialogue and cooperation are also the factors behind the city of Århus that we know today – and are indeed the factors that will continue to carry Århus forward.

Dialog09 will be the year where, for the first time, all events and projects undertaken by the various cultural institutions in Århus will be included in an all-inclusive programme. The programme will be updated regularly and highlighted in a joint promotion of Dialog09 – in effect making Dialog09 the pivotal point of information about the long list of events in Århus in 2009.
